Dr. Richard Brown: WFC’s #BeEPIC

Imagine a world where every person has access to chiropractic so that populations can thrive and reach their full potential. That is the vision of the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC).

Meet Richard Brown, DC, LLM, FRCC, FBCA, FEAC, FAECC, secretary-general of the WFC and one of several individuals leading this charge for the chiropractic profession. He comes to Logan’s Spring Symposium to speak about WFC’s #BeEPIC campaign, which promotes evidence-based, people-centered, inter-professional and collaborative approaches to chiropractic care.

Dr. Brown said evidence-based practice is becoming the standard of care in the provision of health care globally, and more informed patients are demanding that their treatment is backed by high quality scientific evidence and clinician expertise.

“There is also an expectation that chiropractors will work with and alongside other health care providers in the best interests of the patients they serve and that chiropractic services will be delivered in a manner that values shared decision-making and the views of patients, carers and families,” he said.

Dr. Brown speaks at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 1 and says he looks forward to sharing how every chiropractor can integrate the EPIC principles to achieve practice success and a sustainable future.

“The opportunities for chiropractors in 2020 are immeasurable,” he said. “Throughout the United States, we are celebrating chiropractors being appointed to prestigious positions, enrolled in interdisciplinary teams and working in elite research teams. Evidence is on our side and this is the time for chiropractic to shine like never before – if we make a commitment to #BeEPIC.”

Dr. Christine Goertz: Low Back Pain

Christine Goertz, DC, PhD, is a professor in musculoskeletal research at the Duke Clinical Research Institute and the director of system development and coordination for spine health in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University. She is also chief executive officer at The Spine Institute for Quality.

On Saturday, May 2 at 10 a.m., Dr. Goertz will give a presentation titled, “American College of Physician’s Guideline for LBP: Why, What and Who?” This presentation will describe the prevalence, cost, public health impact, and common signs and symptoms associated with low back pain. Dr. Goertz will also discuss the recommendations of the American College of Physician’s 2017 Guideline on Low Back Pain and describe the role of a DC as an evidence-based primary spine practitioner.

“I am looking forward to talking about the opportunities and challenges faced by the chiropractic profession in these exciting times”, Dr. Goertz said. “In addition, I plan to provide concrete examples of what you can do today to align your practice with the needs of today’s health care delivery system.”

Dr. Goertz received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern Health Sciences University in 1991 and her Ph.D. in Health Services Research, Policy and Administration from the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota in 1999.
